Interactions between systemic immunity and gut microbiota in four infant
Nelly Amenyogbe
PhD Candidate, Mohn Lab, UBC Department of Experimental Medicine
UBC MS-NMO Program

Nelly Amenyogbe is pursuing her PhD under the mentorship of Dr. William Mohn.  Her thesis work is focused on identifying interactions between early life systemic immunity and gut microbiomes.  Her work includes cohorts across geographically distinct populations, and within those, sub-populations of HIV-exposed uninfected infants.  This work will ultimately enable the understanding of how distinct microbial environments, and with that immune responses, contribute to different susceptibilities to disease and vaccine responses around the world and move towards population-specific vaccine and therapy design.  She is also involved in assessing prevalence of healthy gut bacteria in West African infants to identify target probiotics to prevent newborn infectious disease.
