University Storage Grid Maintenance – Dec 21, 10:00 – 22:00 PT

Network connectivity – South Campus December 23, 2017 22:36 PT

The network connectivity in the following south campus buildings are affected due to a power outage. Service staff are working to restore power.

Update :   Building power and Network connectivity has been restored in South Campus Natural Gas Trailer as of 02:10 PT on December 24. Staff are continuing to work on restoring connectivity in Paprican Building.

 

EduCloud Server Maintenance – December 20, 2017 22:00 – 23:59 PT

We will be performing scheduled maintenance on the EduCloud Server environment (https://bcnet.educloud.ubc.ca) for Organizations hosted in Vancouver (Point Grey) location during the above maintenance window.

Virtual machines running on the EduCloud Server service will remain up and running. Administrators will be able to manage virtual machines via standard management methods like RDP and SSH, but will not be able to manage them though the EduCloud Server Administration Portal.

Update: Performance of Enterprise Systems – Dec 20, 2017 – 14:30 PT

We are continuing working with the vendor on resolving the issue that impacted the performance of enterprise systems since the weekend.  We have identified a few areas to focus on to determine the root cause.

We will be carrying out a couple of scheduled maintenances on the EduCloud Server environment starting tonight from 22:00-23:59 PT and tomorrow from 07:00-19:00 PT. Users will not experience any impact to their performances and administrators will continue to be able to manage their servers via standard remote management methods.  Please see posted maintenance bulletin for further information.

Update: Performance of Enterprise Systems – Dec 19, 2017 – 09:15 PT

We were able to stabilize all enterprise systems including the Learning Management System. Users should be able to access all services normally. We are continuing to work with our vendor on identifying the root cause of the issue and resolving it.

We will provide another update after 17:00 PT.

The following message is being shared with the campus community.

Over the weekend, routine maintenance of our enterprise storage systems was undertaken which affected some of our physical servers (supporting EduCloud). All enterprise systems are currently accessible, but users may have noticed slowdowns while connecting to Connect and Canvas platforms over the weekend. Our IT team has been working with our vendor throughout the weekend to diagnose the issue and create contingency plans, with the highest priority in ensuring that the Learning Management Systems aren’t compromised during exam time and given the need for student access. We will keep the campus community informed of any further issues on Monday. Users who experience any related issues should submit a ticket to the IT Service Centre.

EduCloud Server Administration Portal is available for most virtual server management services, however, you may still experience intermittent issues with provisioning new virtual servers.

 

We are continuing on working with our vendor team to resolve all outstanding issues and will provide another update tomorrow morning or earlier if issues are resolved.

Update – EduCloud Server Administration Portal – Dec 18, 2017 – 11:15 PT

We are experiencing an issue with the EduCloud Server Administration Portal that is affecting management of virtual servers located in Vancouver (Point Grey) data center.  Please note that management of servers in the Kamloops data center is not affected.

 

Please note that running virtual servers remain unaffected and administrators can continue to manage workloads through standard remote management methods.

 

Next update will be provided at 2pm.

We are currently experiencing an issue where certain portal tasks get stuck and do not get executed.  In order to resolve the underlying issue we will be performing maintenance on the EduCloud Server Administration Portal – the portal will be intermittently available for approximately 1 hour.

Please note that running workloads are not affected by the issue and you can continue to manage them via standard remote management methods.

The next update will be provided at 11:00 PT.

The earlier issue today with Pinnacle has been resolved at 14:35 PT today. Users will be able to access Pinnacle at www.billing.it.ubc.ca

We are currently experiencing an issue accessing Pinnacle at www.billing.it.ubc.ca. Technicians are currently investigating the issue.

The earlier issue today with the UBC Library Catalog has been resolved at around 12:15 PT.

UBC Library catalog is presently not available. Technicians are working to resolve the issue and the estimated time to resolve is 13:00 PT.

**RESOLVED** Multiple Enterprise Services Unavailable – Friday, December 15th, 2017

UCMS-OSX Upgrade December 15, 2017 21:00 – 23:00 PT

The JAMF Pro software underpinning this service will be receiving an upgrade from v9.101.0 to v10.1.0. During this outage window, UCMS-OSX admins will be unable to connect to the UCMS-OSX admin interface. No impact on client machines is expected.

RESOLVED – WeBWorK Maintenance – Unable to Access WeBWorK From Connect – December 14, 2017

We have encountered unexpected issues with WeBWorK that we expect to resolve by 15:30 PT following the completion of some maintenance work. WeBWorK users should log in directly at https://webwork.elearning.ubc.ca/webwork2 as they will not be able to access the tool via links from Connect while this maintenance is ongoing. Please contact the Learning Technology Hub with any questions.

The maintenance for WeBWorK has been completed and the earlier access issue has been resolved.

RESOLVED – WeBWork access via Connect is not working – December 14, 2017 – 08:00 PT

Users have reported an error when trying to connect to WeBWork in their Connect course. While technicians are investigating the issue, users should log in directly at:  https://webwork.elearning.ubc.ca/webwork2

The issue with WeBWork has been resolved at approximately 09:50 PT today.

Canvas Functionality Updates and New Integrations Dec 14, 2017 10:00 – 16:00 PT

Resolved – UBC Directory to LDAP provisioning issues – December 13, 2017

We are currently experiencing an issue where updates made to the UBC Directory are not being sent to OpenLDAP. Any updates made to the UBC Directory e-mail aliases since December 8, 2017 are currently not in effect.

Technicians are currently investigating the issue. We will provide another update at 13:00 PT.

Resolved: The earlier issue we were having with OpenLDAP has been resolved at approximately 10:45 PT.

Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability Network Upgrade December 12, 2017 19:00 – 23:00 PT

Network maintenance is being performed on the Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability building network to facilitate upgrades as part of the Network Switch Replacement Program. During this service window on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 19:00 – 23:00 PT, all wired network services will be sporadic, as the network services are migrated, and the connectivity is verified.
