MSL PDF & RA Committee Guest Seminar – Dr. Christian Landry

Dr. Christian Landry from the Université Laval will be delivering a talk on October 17, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the MSL seminar room (MSL 102). This visit has been organized by the MSL PDF & RA committee.
Talk Title: Gene duplication: from redundancy to dependency
Abstract: Gene duplication impacts the evolution of genomes in many ways. One consequence is the addition of connections among proteins in protein interaction networks. Although many of these new connections are likely to contribute novel and advantageous functions to the cell, some could also represent the accumulation of mutations that have led to the neutral evolutionary construction of molecular complexes. Dr. Landry will present his team’s work over the past seven years, which has involved multidisciplinary approaches to understanding this phenomenon.
