Title: The Mammary cell division axis is disturbed by BRCA1 dysfunction
Bio:
Dr. Chris Maxwell obtained a PhD in Medical Sciences (Oncology) from the University of Alberta before completing postdoctoral training at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California and the Catalan Institute of Oncology in Spain. He is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia and an Investigator with the Michael Cuccione Childhood Cancer Research Program at the BC Children’s Hospital, where he co-leads the Childhood Cancer and Blood Research Group. The Maxwell lab researches cell division at a molecular level and applies that knowledge to the study of progenitor cells. By studying how molecules work together during the division of these cells, the lab hopes to better detect, monitor, and treat the childhood and hereditary cancers that arise as a result of too many cell divisions and inflict 1,400 kids and 2,200 young adults each year in Canada.
