Koerner/Sedgewick Library Network Upgrade June 27, 2018 20:30 – 23:59 PT

Network maintenance is being performed on the Koerner/Sedgewick Library network to facilitate upgrades as part of the Network Switch Replacement Program. During this service window on Wednesday June 27, 2018 20:30 – 23:59 PT, all wired and wireless network services will be sporadic, as the network services are migrated, and the connectivity is verified.

Moodle LMS Vulnerability – June 26, 2018

A new vulnerability has been detected in Moodle, the open source PHP-based learning management system (LMS). The vulnerability, named ‘Evil Teacher’ allows for remote code execution.

Impacted Platforms

The vulnerability appears to impact versions older than 3.5.0, which means most instances are impacted. Exploitation is limited to those assigned as a “teacher” role.

Recommended Actions

On Monday, June 25, 2018 from 18:00 to 23:59 PT, the UBC SharePoint Software as a Service (SaaS) service will be undergoing maintenance. During this maintenance window, SharePoint sites may not be accessible.

UBC Digital Signage Server Maintenance Jun 25, 2018 19:00 – 23:00 PT

The UBC Digital Signage Service will not be available during the maintenance windows. Please note the following service impact during this maintenance window:

– Management of content, scheduling and player nodes via the CoolSign Network Manager application will not be available.
– Broadcasting emergency alert messages across the digital signage network of displays will not be available.
– Player nodes will continue to play scheduled content that has been previously cached on the player node’s local disk storage.

VPN-less SharePoint sites are now accessible from a UBC network.  However, accessing VPN-less SharePoint sites from an off-campus network will require VPN.  Technicians are still working to resolve the root issue.

Please be advised that some Sharepoint sites which utilize the VPN-less feature are currently inaccessible.  Technicians are currently investigating.

The self service portal continues to have performance issues.  Logging into and navigating through the website is slow.  File synchronization on the Workspace client may fail initially but after a few retries will sync successfully.

Systems was working with the Vendor today and will continue to work with the vendor tomorrow to restore service as soon as possible.

Workspace Service is intermittently down.  Users may have issues uploading and downloading files, and accessing the workspace portal.  Systems is working with the vendor to get the service back as soon as possible.  We will send an update in a few hours.

Analog Voice Services Maintenance June 21, 2018 17:30-19:30 PT

Some analog voice services will be undergoing maintenance on June 21, 2018 at 17:30-19:30 PT. This will result in service interruptions for the affected lines for approximately 2 minutes. Analog voice services at the UBC Hospital services will not be impacted by this change.

Student Service Centre (SSC) and Student Information Service Centre (SISC) Issues

On June 12, we experienced interruptions to the Student Service Centre (SSC) and Student Information Service Centre (SISC) and other related systems during registration. The exact cause of this disruption is unknown.

Yesterday (Tuesday, June 19th), we had a partial disruption lasting several minutes that may have impacted some students, requiring them to reconnect. Without a clear root issue identified, we may see further issues as registration period continues and we have a cross-functional team working to monitor the situation in real time during registration periods to enable us to respond in the event of a reoccurrence.
