MSL celebrates faculty promotions for Drs. Joanne Fox, Christian Kastrup and Nobu Tokuriki

The Michael Smith Laboratories celebrates the successful promotions of three MSL Faculty members: Drs. Joanne Fox, Christian Kastrup, and Nobuhiko Tokuriki.

These promotions are the result of rigorous reviews both internal and external to UBC, and are bestowed in recognition of the outstanding academic contributions and achievements of these faculty members.

Dr. Joanne Fox

Professor of Teaching – Michael Smith Laboratories and Microbiology & Immunology.

Dr. Fox completed her PhD in Genetics from UBC, and was then appointed Head of support and training at the UBC Bioinformatics Centre. She joined the Michael Smith Laboratories in 2007 as an Instructor where she was promoted through the ranks to Senior Instructor. Since 2015, Dr. Fox has been the Principal and Academic Director of UBC Vantage College.

Dr. Christian Kastrup

Promoted to the rank of Associate Professor – Michael Smith Laboratories and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.

Dr. Kastrup completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Chicago, and a Postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining Michael Smith Laboratories in 2011 as an Assistant Professor. Kastrup is also currently a member at the Centre for Blood Research, a member of the GSAT graduate training program, and an associate member of the Biomedical Engineering training Program.

Dr. Nobuhiko Tokuriki

Promoted to the rank of Associate Professor – Michael Smith Laboratories and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.

Dr. Tokuriki completed his PhD in Bioengineering at Osaka University, followed by Postdoctoral fellowships first at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, then at the University of Cambridge. Tokuriki joined Michael Smith Laboratories as an Assistant Professor in 2011. Tokuriki is also currently a member of the GSAT and ECOSCOPE graduate training programs.
