Awards and recognition
On Thursday, April 12th, six renowned medical pioneers will be recognized as the 2018 Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Inductees at a special ceremony, hosted in partnership with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, including London’s own Dr. Vladimir Hachinski, one of the world’s leading neurologists who has changed survival odds for stroke sufferers everywhere.
According to a news release distributed on CNW, Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Inductees are individuals whose contributions have led to extraordinary improvements in human health. Their work may be a single outstanding contribution or a career of notable achievements. As trailblazers in their respective fields, these experts underpin Canada’s role as a world-class leader in medicine and health sciences. The 2018 CMHF Inductees are Drs. B. Brett Finlay, Philip B. Berger, Vladimir Hachinski, Balfour M. Mount, Cheryl Rockman-Greenberg, and the late Emily Stowe.
Dr. B. Brett Finlay: Dr. Finlay is a Peter Wall Distinguished Professor at UBC’s Michael Smith Laboratories. His research in cellular microbiology has led to vaccines and treatments for drug-resistant infections. He is also known as the co-author of the provocative bestseller, Let Them Eat Dirt: Saving Your Child from An Oversanitized World, which presents scientific evidence about the dangers of excessive cleanliness.
“The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame is proud to welcome these six individuals as honoured members,” says Dr. Bryce Taylor, national chair of the CMHF, in a news release. “Their passion and visionary leadership has improved health in this country, with global impact. Each of these exceptional people has earned their place alongside the current 125 Laureates of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.”
“The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is delighted to be a partner host for the 2018 Induction Ceremony in London, Ontario – the home of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame,” says Dr. Michael Strong, Dean of Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. “We are pleased to honour these exemplary health care leaders for their extraordinary contributions to medicine and health sciences around the globe.”
