AbCellera wins 2019 Technology Impact Award for Company of the Year – Scale Success

Congratulations to AbCellera, a local biotechnology company founded at the University of British Columbia (UBC), for winning the 2019 Technology Impact Award for Company of the Year – Scale Success

AbCellera started out at UBC with only six employees: Dr. Carl Hansen, an Associate Professor at the Michael Smith Laboratories, and five members from his research group. The Hansen lab, in collaboration with Dr. James Piret’s lab and Dr. Chip Haynes’ lab at UBC, had a major breakthrough and developed the microfluidic fluorescence bead assay that is at the core of AbCellera’s technology. The company has now grown to over 75 employees who contribute expertise in diverse fields such as computational and data science, cell biology, protein chemistry, and biophysical engineering. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for AbCellera!
